weekend of fun
this was my weekend.....
all these are different questions, i spared you, the other 5 i had to reply too.

I believe jail crowding to be the major problem as well as jail standards. Overcrowding can lead to "violence, rape and a variety of health issues", as well as a possible "reduction of life expectancy". Inmates that are overcrowded also cause more problems with guards who have to basically control the overpopulated. This causes more stress to the guards and possibly puts them more at risk. With the problem of litigation within the prison inmates, the use of a basic set of standards within the jails and prisons can then help the prisons deal with inmates better and be freed from the constant cloud of litigation and liability. Guards can then focus on matters at hand, instead of feeling caught in the system. With the standards, then "administrators can evaluate staff performance", as well. Perhaps with a set of standards within the prison system, officials and policy makers can focus on rehabilitation and programs that might actually help the inmates, so that they do not return to the system.

Again, yes, I believe overcrowding is the major issue. After all this understanding of the situation of overcrowding, and what the effects are in and on the system. I am starting to believe; somewhere someone is making a profit off all this. They do not want this problem fixed within the system, I believe that personal issues are just another axis in the wheel of the system, someone would lose profit if they paid the prison guards more money, and if they can continue you find replacements at that wage level, why would the profit maker want to raise wages. No profit lost, system stays the same, more profit, the system might then change.

I'm sorry, but I think I have to disagree. I don't see how large amount of physical activity with constant scrutiny rehabilitates a youth. How does physical military drills "show them what the future would be like"? I'm not sure I understand this, meaning to have a future in the army? Physical activity mixed with an educational supplement and supportive peer group, might rehabilitate. In the textbook, it states that boot camps don't work. Yes the program itself is promising if changed.

I believe boot camp is effective if the core structure of the physical action is supplemented with peer and educational support. Yes, then these "services" as you stated might give them a change to rehabilitate. The textbook authors general consensuses is that boot camps do not work. However, I do agree with your comment that it "all depends on the officials and also the willingness of the offenders". The "best solution" depends on people's perception of what punishment should be. Norway has a very different view of deviants and offenders than Americans do. In the supplement extras on the DVD Sicko, there is an excellent mini-movie about a "prison" in Norway. I was completely taken back how they treat their inmates. They treat them as equals, it was truly a flip view how American's view their inmates, and how our prison system view and treat them.

I believe it can be both effective and ineffective. Effective in the sense when the parole officer has enough cases, where he/she does not become overwhelmed and starts to miss things in the parolee case file, or actions of the parolee. When the parole officer becomes over cased that is when it becomes ineffective. Inmates that are paroled, at least can try to obtain normalcy in the environment, and do good and positive community work. They are still being watched in sense by the parole officer, but are not incarcerated in the prison, where the inmate can then get caught in prison life, and all that entails. Depending on the inmate's crime, paroling is a good positive outlook for the inmate, and perhaps they then can adjust into society as a productive citizen. Unfortunately after I wrote this answer for fun I started to look on government websites, concerning the sheriff's office in Collier county. I person can see, on these websites, the booking information, and mug shots of people who committed crimes, and not to sound judgmental, it is one thing thinking of this material in a theory form, it is quite another to see mug shots of criminals for that day, and how it seems so never-ending, sad and frankly disturbing.

gee my homework is done.

i need a boyfriend.
